ok, getting heads milled by a local shop for 135-150, this includes them being milled, and a valve job. How much should i take off of the bottom of them? Im sure they will take off whatever i ask but i want to be safe. I have crane roller rockers... not sure if they are 1.6 or 1.7... take that into concideration.. thank you!!!

.040 is the MAX you can flat mill from the surface without milling the intake to match. On an E7 .030 will give you about 60cc chambers & raise your compression by about 1/2 point.

I just had my GT40 irons milled .030 & they had already been cut .007 once before. Can't tell you yet if they worked because they are still on the bench.

I said he should just do the minimum and leave well enuff alone. Being the motor has been rebuilt you dont know if the heads were milled before. I know it was rebuilt because it has Sealed power pistons in it. Standard bore.

yeah sure, the second it fails i think im going to go for a 351W muahhaha, leave it stock and build it eventually. *this is me smacking myself :slap: The whole reason i bought a 5.0 stang is to have a 5.0 lol. I love the 302 engine. Always have and it wont change. but... isnt a 306 still a 5.0? :rotf:

The machine shop can tell if they have been cut already. They told me mine had been cut .007 before I got them. I am keeping mine standard bore because I can. It's cheaper & the performance difference going to a 306 is a joke. The cylinder walls are also slightly stronger with the smaller bore, not that it likely matters with my mild engine. A 306 could be called a 5.1. A liter is about 60ci.

Our stock motors are actually closer to 4.9 than 5.0.
101.60 mm bore
76.20 mm stroke
pie(r2xstroke) x 8
so that equals..............4942 cc's which is 4.942 liters.

So a 306 would be
102.362 mm bore
76.20 mm stroke
so that equals..............5016.6 cc's which is 5.0166 liters

Imagine that, a 306 is a true 5.0.

This is fun, let's do a 331 and 347!
331
102.362 mm bore
82.55 mm stroke
5435 cc's=5.435 liters

347
102.362 mm bore
86.36 mm stroke
5685 cc's=5.685 liters

Every inch is 25.4 millimeters, that's how I converted to metric.
Example: 4.00 x 25.4=101.60....standard bore of a 302
3.40 x 25.4=86.36.......stroke of 347 crank

Sorry........ I got carried away :) .

This was good advice.
I've recently been educated (Ed H.) that E7's have a realitivly weak deck, and that milling them any amout makes them unstable, making them easily distorted, and 'causing head gasket issues.

Sigh... we all know what boat that puts me in.
